Uninhabited

‘I’ll get there, if I leave everything but my bones behind.’

- Tolkien

Underneath four layers of wool, with sturdy boots and a wilful heart; that is how I would describe the success of my latest adventures in Iceland.

Tolkien was an author hugely inspired by this country's folktales and - after having visited the land of ice and fire - I can understand why. As we roamed over the volcanic ground, into lava tunnels, beside glaciers and between continents, we were told stories of trolls and elves. By the time we left, the vastness of space found upon this haunting landscape was full of characters who take their slumber within the Blue Mountains, Rivendell and Mordor.
